chapter six-Dry Camping in the Desert-Part Four

We are dry camping with John and Marie in the desert, off Vulture Peek Road, outside of Whickenberg Az.  We look up at Vulture Peek every day, and actually you can see it miles away as you drive towards Whickenburg. If you continue 12 miles down Vulture Mine Road, instead of turning off to find us, you will find Vulture Gold Mine.  Henry Whickenburg made his first strike in 1883, and it is reported that the Vulture gave up $200,000,000 in gold & silver before it was shut down in 1942, an estimated 2 to 3 times this amount still remains.  The Assay Office (that is still standing, but fenced off) was built in 1884 out of ore from the mine, and it's walls contain over $600,000 in gold and silver.  When you arrive you are given a map and do a self guided tour, there is so much to see, we walked around for about four hours.  Yup, you guessed it a must see!
