Chapter six-Dry Camping in the Desert-Part Three

It's been cold, windy and raining for the last few days, so haven't done much around camp.  On New Year's Eve John and Marie drove the motor home into town to dump the tanks and load up with water for the next month.  We drove in and met them for all you can eat fish & chips and then to the bar for karaoke and bringing in the New Year.  Best damn fish & chips on the planet, if you're ever in Whickenburg go to the Bar 7 on Friday night and enjoy!  We got home around 1:00 am and the city folk arrived the next afternoon and set back up in time for happy hour.  Now that it's January we're hoping for warmer and drier weather, it finally came around the 3rd.  Larry and I decided to check out the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Whickenburg and were not disappointed.  We spent a good four hours walking around checking it all out, not only is this mining country, but the wild west, too.  Yes, another must see.

Marie told us of three ghost towns and mining camps within the same area that they went to see last year, Stanton, Octave and Weaver.  John has torn the jeep apart, so, with maps, info, and GPS co-ordinates, we set off on our own in the tracker to find then. We did manage to find Octave and Weaver, but missed Stanton and had to come back a few days later. There's not much left at Octave and at Weaver, only the cemetery, but it's well worth the adventure, the roads are more like burrow trails, heaps of fun.  When we returned and actually found Stanton we were not disappointed.  Another must see.
