It is very difficult to keep the blog up to date when we are on the move, we don't have interweb, and when we do the signal comes and goes, something we're going to have to rectify for next year! Because of the week signal I'll do an update, but there probably won't be pictures, that's WAY too much to ask!
We spent March 1st and 2nd at the Butterfield RV Resort and Conservatory in Benson AZ, because I won a 2 free night stay there at the Big Tent RV Show in Quartzsite. We enjoyed the observatory star lecture and were able to look through the telescope at the different stars because there were no clouds our first night, lucky we went, as the next night it was closed due to clouds. The next day we went around looking for a new spot to call home, and settled on the Red Barn, on the other side of town, and stayed there from March 3rd to March 7th.
On March 4th we spent 5 hours driving the country side looking for and at some ghost towns in the area, and marvelling at how the scenery changes. We went from flat cactus, to boulders balancing precariously on each other, to mountains, and even ranch land, awesome!
March 5th we drove to Bisbee and took an underground mine tour, where we had to wear hardhats, yellow slickers, and batteries around our waists with lanterns attached. We rode on the original baby train that took the miners down, learned how they did the dynamite thing, and even came up close and personal with a bat, about a foot away, at least it was only one!
On the 6th we went to Tombstone for the day, walking through all the shops, museums, and hotel. We took in the shoot-out at the OK Corral, the history show next door narrated by Vincent Price, and walked through the cemetery. We must have wondered around for over 6 hours, and I know we missed some stuff, but, it was close to 5:00 and time to drive home. We picked up a pizza at a little take out place back in Benson and enjoyed it while watching Survivor!
We spent Monday planning the next stage of our trip, doing laundry, and getting ready to hit the highway early on Tuesday, March 8th, we decided to leave Arizona and head to New Mexico to explore for a week or two. We landed at the Town and Country Good Sam campground in Roswell New Mexico on the 9th of March. Today is Friday March 11 and we have checked out some of the Aliens over the past couple of days and are going out today to finish up our observations, buy a few groceries, and get ready to load up and head out tomorrow. We will be going north, checking out the Billy the Kid Grave at Fort Sumner, before hooking up to Route 66 in Santa Rosa. Who knows when we'll have Interweb again!
